I’m no longer surprised at this type of news and most people don’t even regard this as newsworthy anymore but oh well. Lady Gaga’s latest single ‘Telephone’ has gone to the top spot on the pop radio chart in the United States. For those of you who are keeping count, that’s the singer’s sixth number 1 single in a row! Amazing! Give it up for the princess of pop! Congratulations Lady Gaga! I wonder if she can make it seven in a row once she releases another single. I’m pretty sure she will. It’s not even a question anymore really.
Teen star Miley Cyrus may be getting all the criticisms for growing up and for having a boyfriend who is living in her house. However, you have to give it to Miley Cyrus because despite all the flak, her new single “The Climb” debuted on Billboard’s Hot 100 list at Number 6. This is considered a career high since Miley Cyrus’ previous single “7 Things” only peaked at No. 9. The Climb is a country single from “Hannah Montana: The Movie Soundtrack” which include songs not only from Miley Cyrus but also a duet between her and dad Billy Ray Cyrus. BFF Taylor Swift, has a cameo in the film and the soundtrack particularly in the single “Crazier”.
It’s indeed a good month for the father and daughter team as Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Back to Tennessee” also debuted on the Host Country Songs chart. Miley Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus simultaneous debut in the charts is the first time since 1990 when Johnny and Rosanne Cash accomplished the feat of father and daughter debuting together on the Charts. The Hannah Montana movie, which will be shown on April 10, is expected to be well attended by Miley Cyrus’ fans.
Rihanna is looking hot as she waved to photographers while out shopping in West Hollywood with her family. Rumored boyfriend Chris Brown wasn’t around though. Rihanna is currently spending her second week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart with her hit song ‘Disturbia’. Someone finally knocked off Katy Perry! David Archuleta’s ‘Crush’ made the best chart debut in over 18 months by reaching number 2 and sold 166,000 downloads in the US. It looks like Rihanna has some stiff competition. I wonder when David Cook will be releasing more of his stuff. One David is not enough for me.
Katy Perry rules the charts for the third week in a row as the singer’s monster hit is the #1 song in America by topping the Billboard Hot 100. It’s shaping up to be the song of the summer. Other notable chart movement for this week include Rihanna’s ‘Take a Bow’ moving from #4 to #2, Lil Wayne’s ‘Lollipop’ going from #2 to #3, and Miley Cyrus’ ‘7Things’ moving from #16 to #10, mostly due to digital downloads as the song isn’t getting much love on the radio. It looks like this summer is all good for the ladies. Katy better watch out as Rihanna looks like she’s hot on her heels.
Madonna’s single ‘4 Minutes (To Save the World)’ featuring Justin Timberlake is proving to be one of the Queen of Pop’s biggest hits in years! According to MediaTraffic, the single has now reached the top spot on the United World Chart Global Track Chart. Madonna’s hit of a single is #1 on the iTunes Charts in 14 countries out of the 22 top countries listed. Of the remaining 8 countries, she’s listed in either #2 or #3 in six of them with Japan and Greece not listing her in the top 10… yet. She’s topping the charts all over the globe!
When most people have a bad day at work they treat themselves to a pint and fish and chips. Or the local equivalent anyway…
But millionairess Kylie Minogue plans to get over the disappointment of her failed bid to crack the US again by buying up a $6million country retreat.
She has expressed an interest in a riverside Tudor home in Sussex.
She looked at the country mansion last week after returning from the States – where she failed to break into the Top 100 with her album X, despite a huge publicity drive.
Her pal Robbie Williams had a house nearby and recommended the area. I’ve seen the pad and it certainly is a palace fit for a pop princess. It even includes a chapel, just in case the singer’s life wasn’t already wholesome enough.
The star is desperate to settle down as she approaches her 40th birthday next month.
In November, Kylie revealed: “I’m looking for a property in the country. I need to do things to make me feel whole.”
I said, in not so many words, that Madonna was going to win over Mariah Carey in their unofficial diva battle. An industry expert explains why that is so. Mariah always gets to go first, with her song being on radio for more than a month while Madonna’s has only been on for a week. Mariah’s album also comes out before Madonna’s. Mariah’s song dropped on iTunes a day before Madonna’s. All that really means is that Mariah will have a strong first week and go down while Madonna’s will gain airplay and get stronger as Mariah drops. In short, Madonna still wins in the end.
Ashley Tisdale is a big music lover. And like any true music lover, she’s not stuck on one type of music but rather a whole range that seemingly doesn’t have any connection at all. She recently made her own top 10 music picks for 2007 and I can say that the girl has some good taste.Taking the top spot is Carrie Underwood with ‘So Small’, followed by Paramore with ‘Misery Business’, Rihanna with ‘Umbrella’, The Used with ‘Pretty Handsome Awkward’, Beyonce with ‘Irreplaceable’, Michael Buble with ‘Everything’, The Academy Is with ‘Everything We Had’, Plain White T’s with ‘Hey There Delilah’, My Chemical Romance with ‘Teenagers’ with Justin Timberlake rounding her list off with ‘Summer Love’.
American Idol’s most recent champion Jordin Sparks’ debut CD is expected to come in at #2 this week, so say some industry projections. She would come in behind Alicia Keys who’s expected to dominate the charts for the entire holiday season.
Jordin’s album is expected to sell between 90,000 to 100,000 on its first week. While the numbers aren’t that bad, those projections would actually make Jordin’s album have the lowest debut for an American Idol winner – ever! Yes, it’s worse than Ruben’s. A lot of runners up sold even more than that in their first week. That has got to hurt.
Everyone predicted that Carrie Underwood’s CD would sell a lot and would go to the top of the charts but it actually did even better than any prediction made. ‘Carnival Ride’ is currently the #1 album in the US and has sold over 527,000 copies during its debut week. This is the American Idol alum’s first #1 album and also bested her previous effort ‘Some Hearts’ which sold 315,000 units in its first week.
Her record sales is also the best sales week for a female country artist since Shania Twain’s ‘Greatest Hits’ release back in November 2004. Carrie’s debut is also double what Kelly Clarkson’s ‘My December’ CD sold in its first week.
Chris Brown has ended hip-hop sensation Soulja Boy’s reign at the top of the U.S. pop charts with his new song Kiss Kiss. Brown’s collaboration with rapper T-Pain has toppled Soulja Boy’s Crank That (Soulja Boy), which spent seven weeks at number one. I think Chris Brown is HOT so he should stay him self! And about this toppling thing, well music today is as creepy as these guys themselves. There are just a few good looking males in the music industry and the other just a stinking pigs using a hell lot of perfume to hide that bad odor slipping out from underneath their armpits. Well that’s all that I’d like to these guys, for me the music of the Rolling Stones and other established artist is more fun listening to rather than have some cranked up music make me deaf in the ears.
American Idol alum Carrie Underwood is featured on the cover of Entertainment Weekly for this past week. She’s on there for good reason as her 2005 album ‘Some Hearts’ is the most successful album from any Idol contestant as it sold over 6 million copies.
Along with the cover is an interview where she talks about what she thinks of those saying she’s not country, being famous and even her past relationship with NFL quarterback Tony Romo.
When people say she’s not country, she says “Okay, here’s my thing: On Top 40 stations, nobody cares that you’ll have Fergie next to 50 Cent. They’re different. Why can’t you have me next to somebody that’s more traditional country? You can call me ‘’not country’’ until your face is blue, but I sing country music.”
Pop trio Sugababes have seen off competition from former X Factor winner Shayne Ward to take the number one position in the UK singles chart. Their track, About You Now, outsold Ward’s No U Hang Up/ If That’s OK With You to claim the top spot. Last week’s number one, Sean Kingston’s Beautiful Girls, fell to number four. This group has come from the blue and I never expected them to storm
the charts all the way to the top, this is really a surprise for me and that too a happy one. I haven’t seen the charts lately so I have no idea who has been the movers and shakers this week and the previous week. I also have no idea that where currently singer Rihanna’s hit number Umbrella is placed coz just a month and a half ago it made waves by becoming the first song in over a decade to occupy the number one slot for 4 consecutive weeks. Let’s see how long the Sugababes can hold on to their number 1 position.
For those of you who were absolutely baffled as to how Mariah Carey became such a huge success in Brazil, I have the reason for you. The curvaceous singer’s cover of Foreigner’s ‘I Want to Know What Love is’ has been on the Brazilian music charts for 20 consecutive weeks at the top spot and [...] […]
It seems that Chris Brown is a little distraught about his career lately. The singer has taken to an on-line voice-messaging site called SayNow to complain about how radio stations aren’t playing his songs anymore. This is what Chris Brown’s message reveals: “A lot of radio stations aren’t playing my records. They are not being [...] […]
It seems the first contestants to go home are from among the girls of American Idol. And America has decided that it should be Katelyn Epperly and Lily Scott. Katelyn Epperly didn’t give much of a farewell speech, but apparently limited herself to saying the usual: “It was definitely a great experience, and I’ve learned [...] […]
I knew that the results would be bad when Ryan Seacrest started off the show by saying we could be in for a surprise or two. Before the American Idol top 12 were revealed, we were treated with the top 16 singing Michael Buble’s ‘Just Haven’t Met You Yet’. It looked like a reunion of [...] […]
Wayne Coyne, the lead singer for The Flaming Lips, is trying to get Justin Timberlake to star in the band’s new movie. Justin played the bass guitar with the band during Top of the Pops back in 2003. Wayne is looking to tap a number of celebrities for their follow up to 2008’s ‘Christmas on [...] […]
Taylor Momsen recently opened up to Parade magazine on how she has trouble “fitting in”, how she has no interest in being a role model, being a celebrity and her music. I’m starting to get irritated with the ‘Gossip Girl’ actress turned singer for trying hard to be edgy when everyone knows she’s just a [...] […]
Even though he was pretty near to getting the privilege to go home, Tim Urban was saved to sing another day and more than made up for it last night. He chose a pretty hard song to cover, “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen, but he did it with flying colors and that got the admiration of [...] […]
Lady Gaga is busy taking over the world with her Monster Ball Tour and putting the finishing touches on her music video for ‘Telephone’ with Beyonce but a rep at her label has revealed that there are talks about a 3D concert and DVD in the near future for the princess of pop. Is this [...] […]
Former Hollywood couple Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake will be seen in bed together in scenes for their new movie, Bad Teacher. The pair dated for four years before splitting in 2007 and Timberlake, 29, is now dating actress Jessica Biel. Timberlake was recently announced as the actor playing Diaz’s love interest in the flick. Diaz, 37, plays [...] […]
The American Idol contestant who seems to have a thing for songs of ages past might have overstayed her welcome this week. Lily Scott’s song choice for last night, Patsy Cline’s “Fall to pieces”, seems to have impressed the judges well enough, but perhaps not the public as well. Ellen DeGeneres commended Lily Scott [...] […]
