Pink’s awe inspiring aerial routine at the Grammys not only wowed the crowd but it also propelled the pop rock singer’s album sales even higher. Her ‘Funhouse’ album is up to 30,000 to 32,000 in sales right now compared to last week’s 9000 and the track she performed ‘Glitter in the Air’ is up over 1,000 percent in the digital downloads. Congratulations to Pink! She’s a real talent and she deserves all the success she can get her hands on. I wonder if other artists would attempt to make other daring performances in hopes of replicating Pink’s sales success. That would be a hoot!
Opinions are starting to surface that Taylor Swift’s performance at the Grammy Awards wasn’t exactly the bell of the ball, even though she went home with no less than four awards. Taylor Swift’s label president however quickly responded to the critics with the following words: “The facts say she is the undisputed best communicator that we’ve got. When she says something, when she sings something, when she feels something, it affects more people than anybody else. Maybe she’s not the best technical singer, but she’s probably the best emotional singer.” Right… not the best technical singer… as in Taylor Swift isn’t really too good with her instruments. Way to go at defending her honor there! Oh well, it is understandable… after all, you can’t just give kick-ass performances when you have magic ponds to build.
All three of Michael Jackson’s kids were set to make an appearance on this past Sunday’s Grammy Awards. However, if you caught the show, only the two eldest, Prince and Paris, showed up along with a couple of their cousins. The kids and their cousins took to the stage to accept the King of Pop’s Lifetime Achievement Award. I’m not sure why the cousins were there but I can only assume that it was for publicity. Prince and Paris spoke to the audience to accept the award in behalf of their late father. However, the ordeal seemed to be too much for their youngest brother with reports saying that he became “overwhelmed moments before his brother Prince Michael and sister Paris took the stage.” Being only 7 years old, that’s pretty understandable.
Grammy nominations leader Beyonce will be among the performers at the Grammy Awards ceremony next year.
The Single Ladies star, who is nominated in 10 categories, was confirmed by the Recording Academy on Tuesday.
Taylor Swift, who is up for eight awards at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards at the Staples Center, will also perform, as well as Black Eyed Peas, Lady Antebellum and Maxwell at the January 31 event.
Black Eyed Peas and Maxwell each have six Grammy nominations, while Lady Antebellum has two.
Beyonce and Swift will be going head to head in the top three Grammy categories of album, record and song of the year.

Carrie Underwood picked up one of the first Grammy trophies this past Sunday for Best Female Country Vocal Performance for her song ‘Last Name’ during the pre-telecast presentation of the 2009 Grammy Awards which was held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Congratulations to her! At that point, the 25-year old country crooner and American Idol season 4 winner already had four Grammys to her name. Does that make her the most successful of all the current American Idols? Kelly Clarkson better catch up to that! She is the original after all. Both are great singers and I wish them all the best.
The 2009 Grammy Awards which was held at the Staples Center this past Sunday in Los Angeles, California was pretty interesting regarding their line up of duets – or not. The Jonas Brothers jammed to their hit song ‘Burnin Up’ with none other than music legend Stevie Wonder. The musical band of brothers also performed Stevie’s classic hit ‘Superstition’. Back in September, the Jonas Brothers performed at the birthday part of Stevie’s 7-year old son, Kailand. Mind you, Nick, Joe and Kevin all looked mighty debonair during both their red carpet appearance and their performance. Big kudos goes to their stylist once again!
Last Sunday’s Grammy Awards was supposed to be a showcase not only of their talent but also their successful relationship but something went wrong preventing Chris Brown and Rihanna also known as Robyn Fenty from performing, even appearing at the Grammy. Couple Brown and Rihanna, were not only nominated for a Grammy but were also slated to perform during the show. However, Brown turned up at 6:30 pm not on stage but at the Wilshire station of the LAPD where he was questioned and detained for surprisingly, allegedly roughing up and threatening Rihanna.
The 19-year Brown, who was booked for allegedly making criminal threat, was released after a $50,000 bailbond was posted. The case will now be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office. Police said Brown was unscathed but it seems the 20-year old Rihanna suffered bruises on her face. The Grammy people had no inkling at first about the reason behind the couple’s last minute absence or whether one’s absence was related to the other. Brown’s lawyer Mark Geragos did not issue any statement but Rihanna’s publicist, Amanda Silverman thanked those concerned and said the singer is well.
The 51st Annual GRAMMY Awards were held Sunday night at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on CBS at 8 p.m. (ET/PT). Check out the nights big winners below:

The stellar career of Justin Timberlake is good enough to make any other musician/artist envious of him and there is no doubt that he is a crowd puller wherever he goes. Sunday night at the Grammy Awards gala event was no different, from the time he stepped onto the stage the audience couldn’t stop screaming his name till their last breaths.
He arrived at the Staples Center in LA looking at his best dressed in an all black attire and was seen mingling with rapper T.I. while the photogs lapped pictures of the two together. Then came his chance to have a piece of the limelight as he announced Al Green’s performance.
Later Justin shared the stage with Al Green, Boys II Men and Keith Urban for a stunning performance collaboration of the song “Let’s Stay Together”.
This chap is really uber cool and whatever he does with his performances is really a craze that seems will never fade away. He is an awesome performer and I really am a great fan of his.
Rihanna showed off her legs that went on for days as she enjoyed some time out with friends at The Grove in Los Angeles this past Wednesday. The Barbadian babe got in early to LA as she has a performance on Sunday at the Grammys to prepare for. Apart from Rihanna, also set to perform are Chris Brown, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Kayne West, Estelle, Adele, Sugarland, Kenny Chesney, Coldplay, Jennifer Hudson, the Jonas Brothers, Kid Rock, Lil Wayne, Paul McCartney (with special guest drummer Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters), Katy Perry, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Radiohead, T.I., Justin Timberlake, U2, Carrie Underwood, Jay-Z, and Kanye West.
The nominations were announced for the 51st Annual Grammy Awards. 2009 Grammy Award will take place on February 8, 2009.
Lil Wayne had the most nominations with eight. Coldplay was close seven nods, while Jay-Z, Ne-Yo, and Kanye West each had six.

Adele had a recent interview with the San Jose Mercury News. The Best New Artist Grammy nominee talked about what she felt about coming to the West Coast for her North American tour. The singer said “I’m looking forward to the heat, I’m looking forward to the Grammys and I’m looking forward to In-N-Out Burger. In fact, as soon as I roll up, I’m going to get an In-N-Out burger. Then I’m going to meet Perez Hilton and have a bit of gossip.” Who doesn’t love a bit of gossip here and there? An In-N-Out Burger would just make it even juicier.
Katy Perry attended the 14th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards last week. I’m not sure why she was there but the singer was looking really glamorous that night. She looked like she got schooled by Dita Von Teese with her choice of frocks. I love it! And oh yeah, don’t forget that you can still enter the competition for the chance to perform on stage with Katy at this year’s Grammy Awards. I hope she keeps this new style of hers, at least until the Grammys. If she keeps this up, she will be someone to look for on the list of best dressed.
After a 16-week break which was forced by the writer’s strike, Saturday Night Live is coming back. And on their first night back, Grammy award winning Carrie Underwood has been asked to make her second appearance on the show. The 24-year old will perform hits from her new double platinum selling album ‘Carnival Ride’.
Saturday Night Live alum Tina Fey will be the host of the returning show and ‘Juno’ star Ellen Page will host next week. It looks like they’re bringing in the big guns for the show. It’s a smart move. The big names will get the people interested and the ratings up.
Extra is reporting that Rihanna was involved in a car accident on Sunday following the Grammy Awards ceremony. After she performed her two-song set with 80s band The Time (she sang ‘Umbrella’ and ‘Don’t Stop the Music’) as well as taking home a Grammy for Rap/Sung Collaboration for her hit song ‘Umbrella’, the Barbados singer was inside her car outside the Island Def Jam party when another vehicle rammed into it. Fortunately, no one sustained injuries and everyone was free to party while Rihanna can keep on singing her music and shielding us under her umbrella… ella… ella… eh. The joke is getting old. I need a new one.
Even though she didn’t make it to sing live on stage, Amy rocked the Grammys with her performance via satellite from London. But that wasn’t nearly her biggest accomplishment for the night.
Amy racked up an amazing five Grammy awards before the show was over. Her awards included record of the year, song of the year, and best new artist.
After sending a shout out to her “Blake incarcerated”, she spoke to the group gathered with her in London. “It’s a shame I couldn’t be there to accept the awards, but I’m so proud and happy that I had the opportunity to perform for the Grammsy in my hometown of London with my family and friends around me. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
Style queen Rihanna came at the InStyle and Grammy Salute to Fashion at nightclub Boulevard 3 on Thursday in Los Angeles wearing a black lace dress and ‘Fiona’ shoes by Jimmy Choo. Did I say style queen? Not this time. This dress was a miss. I think her stylist had a temporary case of insanity when this dress was picked.
Anyway, the 19-year old Barbados singer will be bringing together several decades for her Grammy performance. She will be joining 80s band The Time. Other performers include Feist, Beyonce, Foo Fighters, Alicia Keys, Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood, Aretha Franklin and Mary J. Blige.
Amy Winehouse is nominated for 6 Grammy Awards and is even slated to perform on the show which will go down live on Sunday in Los Angeles. However, don’t look for her there because Wino’s visa application to enter the US was just rejected by the American Embassy in London.
Amy’s UK-based publicist has released a statement regarding the matter saying “Amy has been progressing well since entering a rehabilitation clinic two weeks ago and although disappointed with the decision has accepted the ruling and will be concentrating on her recovery. There will of course be other opportunities and she very much looks forward to visiting America in the near future.”
Music legend Ike Turner has died. He apparently died in his home in San Marcos, California which is just outside of San Diego. He was married four times, most famously to Tina Turner whom he got divorced with in 1978 amidst his constant abuse towards her. Regardless, the singing duo had 7 top ten R&B songs. Ike is survived by his four known children, Ike Jr., Michael, Ronald and Mia.
The Recording Academy issued a statement regarding Turner’s passing saying “There is no doubt that Ike Turner was one of rock and roll’s great architects with his genre-defying sound as an instrumentalist and bandleader … As a two-time GRAMMY® Award winner and recipient of The Recording Academy’s 2004 Heroes Award, Ike’s legacy as a groundbreaking pioneer in the music industry will never be forgotten.”
