Coldplay star Chris Martin is to bring his hit band back to his home town of Exeter for the first time in almost 10 years.

The British band will be playing a charity gig for 500 fans at Exeter Castle on December 19 to raise money for Mencap.

Martin, 32, said that it will be a “really, really special night” and he added: “We’re proud to support Mencap and, for me, it’s exciting to play my home town. We haven’t played there since 2000.

“I don’t think there could be a better way to end the decade.”

Tickets for the Big Noise Session go on sale on the Little Noise Sessions website from December 8 and cost £50.

The concert will be hosted by Radio One DJ, Jo Whiley, who is also a Mencap ambassador.

Chris Martin Injured

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Coldplay’s comeback show has been thrown into jeopardy after Chris Martin injured himself in rehearsals. The 31-year-old singer twisted his knee awkwardly during practice sessions ahead of the band’s date at London’s Brixton Academy on Monday, and is in excruciating pain.

A source said: “Chris has been in absolute agony with his knee. He’s had to strap it up and has been hobbling around the place. He doesn’t want to cancel the show so he is going to fight through the pain barrier.”

If the concert goes ahead it will showcase Coldplay’s much-anticipated fourth album ‘Viva La Vida, Or Death And All His Friends’, which was released yesterday.

Chris’ injury is not the band’s only setback. They have also been forced to postpone the start of their North American tour due to “production delays”. The run of shows was due to begin in Philadelphia on June 29 but will now start in Los Angeles on July 14.

A statement on their official website read: “The band have experienced some production delays which mean that the show simply won’t be ready for June 29. It’s very frustrating but they promise you a show worthy of your patience and understanding when they start in mid-July.”
