Robbie Williams has been offered $3 million to play a half-hour concert – but is planning to turn it down. The ‘Angels’ singer has been offered $1 million a minute to headline a music festival in Norway – but he is unsure whether to accept as he has vowed to give up touring.
A friend of the star said: “It would probably be the easiest money he’ll make in his life but it’s touch and go whether he’ll say yes. We’ll have to wait and see.”
The 34-year-old recently posted a message on his personal blog saying he has no wish to return to live shows because his last tour ‘nearly killed’ him. He wrote: “The more time I’m spending away from public life, the more I like it.”
Despite the poor reception to his last album, 2006’s ‘Rudebox’ and his threats to withhold his next album due to a dispute with his record company EMI, Robbie did confirm he will be releasing new material.
He added: “There definitely won’t be a tour anytime soon. I might put the B-sides to the next album out first online. Then put an album out in 2009 which means you won’t be seeing a lot of me on stage.”
Madonna’s new album ‘Hard Candy’ dropped in stores on Tuesday and while her first week sales are still being predicted, the Queen of Pop has already conquered a key area in the new music business machine commonly known as digital sales. Madonna’s first single off the new album ‘4 Minutes (To Save the World) has become the second ever single to have digital sales over one million units in five weeks. Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’ was the first. As of Tuesday, the digital sales for her single were at 1,004,482 units. Mariah must be really pissed at that considering she barely broke the top 10 on digital sales.
Dropping music sales are making it hard for musicians to pay for getting a record made but if you’re Jill Sobule, you can find a way around it. The musician is taking things into her own hands as the one-hit wonder is turning to fans for help with her next record. She has actually set up a website where fans can donate money to her album effort. Jill’s goal is to raise $75,000 and she’s already raised $54,000 in just a month. Contributors can choose their pledges ranging from $10 to $10,000 – each pledge getting a certain type of benefit like a free digital download of her disc to getting to be a guest singer on the album.
Fall Out Boy got a total of zero Grammy nominations on Thursday mor
ning and come night time, bassist Pete Wentz showed just how much of a sore loser he was when he pitched a fit at the People magazine Grammy kick off party. Pete continues to be a sourpuss when he made a post on the band’s official blog.
In the blog titled “got bitterness? vs. a revelation on true connection (and the award goes to)” Pete reveals just how he felt about the lack of nominations but yet being asked to appear and even perform for a kick off party.
But apart from bitterness, Pete actually has a great point about relevance and acceptance in there. It’s a good read.
Another Spice Girls blog is up with Geri Halliwell penning it. In her blog, she admits that with all the rehearsals going on for the Spice Girls’ world tour, she feels like she’s stuck in some sort of ‘Spice Bubble’.
“I actually feel like I’m in the Spice bubble… we are encapsulated in this world where we are just immersed in each other’s lives constantly. Just before the run through of the show this morning, Mel B, Victoria and I even went to the loo together… in separate cubicles, obviously!”
She also talked about the Spice Kids having play dates and surprising Mel B in the live final of Dancing With the Stars.
Hannah Montana’s Barbie girl Miley Cyrus turned 15 and the only thing her parents say she wished for was to celebrate her birthday on the stage, with her hometown fans.
Daddy opened her act with a guitar solo and from that point on the young star took the stage. 15,000 people congratulated her on her 15th birthday at the end of the act, singing in a choice a nice happy birthday. Miley seemed quite sincere when she told the crowd that she is living her dream both for her and for millions of young Americans out there that can get the big break she did. The innocent 15 year old wishes every kid could live her dream along with her.
We should already come to expect that after showing up for their first show together and the fact that their reunion tour is just around the corner, another Spice Girls blog would be up. This time around, it’s from Sporty Mel C. She talked about rehearsing, performing and even nerves.
She’s incredibly excited about their upcoming tour and spoke about the rehearsals saying that she thinks after all of it, they may just as well run a marathon. She also talked about the rush of being on stage at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show last week but said that she was incredibly nervous and even shaking the whole time.
I’m sure the nerves will be gone come the start of their tour.
We’ve heard from the two Mels otherwise known as Sporty and Scary Spice, now it’s time to hear from Emma otherwise known as Baby Spice. Emma is the latest Spice Girl to blog on their official website.
In her entry, she talked about finally being in LA, how her son Beau was and the mad rush of paparazzi that greeted her when she arrived. She also talked about her excitement over the rehearsals and the tour itself. She even gushed about the merchandise they were going to put out which even includes some baby bits that she wants to get for Beau.
