The Jonas Brothers were pictured at New York City’s Yankee Stadium last weekend. It almost seems like they have no plans of leaving New York. The band of brothers got to talk some about the VMAs and while they couldn’t reveal just what song they’ll be performing, they did say that the song would be their new single. They also talked about their VMA nomination for Video of the Year. When asked who should win for the award other than themselves, Kevin quickly said “Chris Brown’s ‘Forever’… or Britney’s ‘Piece of Me’. She seems to be having a really great comeback and that’s awesome.”

She’s up against her rumored rival, Katy Perry, with this summer’s massive hit ‘I Kissed a Girl’. Other nominees include American Idol champ Jordin Sparks with ‘No Air’, Taylor Swift with ‘Teardrops on My Guitar’ and Tokio Hotel with ‘Ready, Set, Go!’. To see who wins, watch the VMAs. Beyonce’s little sister Solange Knowles rubbed shoulders with pregnant singer Ashlee Simpson backstage during the taping of MTV’s FNMTV last week at Ren-Mar Studios in Hollywood. The 22-year old recently put on the hat of a video director when she made her directorial debut with ‘Sandcastle Disco’ which was written by Cee-Lo and produced by Soulshock & Karlin. The song is the second single off of her sophomore release ‘SoL-AngeL & the Hadley St. Dreams’ which will be dropping in stores on August 26. Her video for the song debuted on the show last Friday. Do the guests of FNMTV have to take pictures with Ashlee when they come by?
The President of the MTV Networks Music Awards, Van Toffler has expressed that there is likelihood that the pop-star Britney Spears will open the show again at 2008 MTV VMAs despite her catastrophic performance last year.
He said that Britney deserves a second and a third chance. He further added, “I’m not sure how we top Britney opening the show but we are looking on it every minute of every day”.
Britney’s chances to perform at the VMAs were given a boost when the title track of her most recent album “Piece of Me” has been nominated for the Video of the Year Award.
At the same time, the sources close to the superstar have revealed that she is also very nervous to perform on the occasion but is looking forward to perform in front of her fans again and prove herself.
Alicia Keys says her fame can make you ‘a ghost of yourself.’ The 27-year-old singer says her gruelling tour schedule and long years of musical training have taken their toll on her life.
Despite selling over 23 million albums and winning over 80 major awards – including 11 Grammys – Alicia says her fame has a huge downside.
She said: “Fame can bring a lot of emptiness. You are so driven that you work 20 hours a day, you get four hours of sleep, you do all that for 10 years straight. Alicia - who is to perform the theme tune to the next James Bond film ‘Quantum of Solace’ with White Stripes singer Jack White - says her soul searching began when she gave up work to look after her dying grandmother last year.
She added: “Losing her made me realise how close I came to the edge. It took a while before I could even say the word ‘grandmother’ because I was so upset.”

Vanessa Hudgens is getting sued for $5 million by her former producer/manager Johnny Vieira who claims that she owes him a lot of cash. Vieira filed a lawsuit last week in the Los Angeles Superior Court saying he wants a cut of the fortune that he helped Vanessa get and is entitled to. According to him, he and Vanessa entered into a financial agreement back in May of 2005 to launch her career and agreed to go 50/50 on the earnings. But after the success of ‘High School Musical’, Vanessa fired Vieira. And although they came to a settlement, she hasn’t been paying up. Maybe she doesn’t have the $5 million to begin with.
As much as her role fits her, Miley Cyrus wasn’t actually Disney’s first choice for the role of Hannah Montana. Singer and aspiring actress JoJo told TV’s Extra that the Mouse House approached her for the role but she turned it down. She said “Yeah, they [Disney] offered me the role…[But] it’s not really what I see for myself. No regrets. No regrets at all.” Who’s willing to call her on her bluff? I bet she’s having regrets. Hannah Montana would have made her huge! Instead, she’s doing Lifetime’s ‘True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet’ in which she plays a hard partying “it” girl who overdoses. Did anyone even know that her show existed?
Madonna returns to Michigan on Nov. 18 for her first home state performance in seven years. Now that’s a “see ya later”!
The pop superstar will be at Ford Field on Nov. 18. The home of the Detroit Lions also has hosted the Super Bowl as well as shows by another hometown favorite, rapper Eminem.
Details on ticket sales for the Madonna show will be announced next week.
The Detroit Free Press reports it would be Madonna’s first concert in the state since 2001, when she performed two shows at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Toni Braxton may have had to close her Las Vegas stage show due to her heart problems but that doesn’t mean she has to stop performing completely. The petite R&B crooner has been confirmed to be part of the new season of Dancing with the Stars. It’s good to know that she’s gotten her health back to the point where she can compete on the show. The exercise she’s going to get from all those dancing practices should also do her some good. And of course, those sympathy votes aren’t going to hurt either. Vanessa Hudgens drove the crowd wild as she performed live on the second date of her solo tour at the Alabama Adventure Theme Park in Bessemer, Alabama last Friday. The 19-year old High School Musical star showed off her talent with songs from her new album ‘Identified’. Of course, she performed ‘Sneakernight’ seeing as that’s her lead single. I’m surprised she has enough of a fan base to have launched a tour. Considering her album is being considered a flop, I doubt it’s going to last long. She’ll go bankrupt if her management decides to go on with a tour without any profit from her album.
New Kids On The Block are set to release a duet with rapper Ne-Yo.
The boy band – who recently reformed following their success in the late 80s and early 90s – have teamed up with the R’n’B singer on their new track ‘Single’.
According to sources, the song will also appear on the band’s upcoming album ‘The Block’ which will be released worldwide in September.

And we all know what really good friends mean in the world of celebrities. But you do have to admit that they make a pretty hot pair. The album cover for Jessica Simpson’s country effort ‘Do You Know’ has been revealed. Her debut country album will be released on Tuesday, September 9th. The 28-year old blonde bombshell of a singer co-wrote all but three tracks on the disc including her top 20 hit single ‘Come on Over’. It was also recently announced that Jessica will be performing at the Akwesasne Music Festival at the Discount Concert Grounds in Hogansburg, New York on August 29. Let’s hope she does better in that show. Her debut country performance was met with a mix of jeers and cheers, but mostly jeers, last time.
Sources are saying that British comedian Russell Brand has been tapped to host this year’s MTV Video Music Awards which will air from Los Angeles in September. If you don’t know who he is, he’s actually a big name in the UK and has awards show hosting experience. Russell was actually the host at the Brit Awards two years ago. He’s also known for his crazy antics and being a self-proclaimed reformed horn dog. That should make the whole VMAs interesting this year. Sarah Silverman was pretty memorable for her bitchiness. I think Russell will be able to top that with his horniness.

In other Ashley news, ‘Picture This’, a made for TV movie starring her was released on DVD this week following its airing on the ABC Family channel. The DVD has a couple of extra treats including Making of ‘Picture This’ and Making a Concert: Behind the Scenes of ‘Shadows of the Night’ Performance. Why do I get the feeling that no matter what she does, she will never outgrow her ‘High School Musical’ role and just become stuck in an acting career rut unless her album does good?
Aubrey O’Day visited MTV’s Total Request Live on Monday at the MTV Times Square Studios in New York City. The 24-year old Danity Kane member has been toning down her sexy image lately as she stars as Amber Von Tussle in the Broadway musical ‘Hairspray’. Aubrey said “I’ve learned the part in two weeks, so it’s been crazy, but such a beautiful experience and everyone has been so welcoming, and I just fit right in… It’s positive energy; it’s not negative, but definitely I have butterflies in my tummy right now. I’m just very excited to go onstage tonight and be a little snotty brat.” It’s easy for her to be a snotty brat since it’s not too far from how she really is anyway.
Jessica Simpson performed at her first country show this past weekend. Just as most predicted, things did not go as she would have liked. When the wannabe country singer took the stage at the Country Thunder Festival in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin on Saturday night, she was greeted with a mix of cheers and boos, but mostly boos. The reviews of her performance are less than stellar. One critic says “Many audience members found her attempt to crossover into country irritating and that her vocals lacked a southern sound.” In short, Jessica will be completely out of a career before the year comes to an end.

The No Doubt singer is one of 19 designers who have been chosen by Warner Bros. Consumer Products and CRYSTALLIZED(TM) - Swarovski Elements to create their own version of Dorothy’s footwear in honour of the 70th anniversary of the classic movie next year.’The Wizard of Oz Ruby Slipper Collection’ will be unveiled in a special event on September 4 at New York’s famous department store Saks Fifth Avenue.
The 19 pairs of shoes – designed by fashion icons including Alberta Ferretti, Christian Louboutin, Diane von Furstenberg, Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik, Moschino and Oscar de la Renta - will then be displayed as part of New York Fashion Week, in the city’s Bryant Park, before being taken around the US on a tour and then being auctioned off, with proceeds going to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

The world better brace itself because we’re going to be hit by a diva hurricane as Mariah Carey is going on tour. The singer has just announced the big news on the JohnJay & Rich morning radio show on Wednesday. The tour is still in the planning stages though so don’t expect to see her this summer. The earliest we can see her is later this year. And if you add in the diva factor, the tour may not happen until next year. By then, people would have lost interest and there wcouldn’t have been a point anyway. She should have planned the tour right when she released her album.
Vanessa Hudgens’ Identified is available now! The High School Musical alum delivers a varied collection of funky pop songs, hip-hop flavored anthems and beautiful ballads on her sophomore release. For those of you that aren’t in the know, Ricky Martin’s old band has been revived and re-stocked with new pretty young things and there’s a bad boy among them. One of the new guys, 18-year old Carlos Olivero, was escorted off of a Delta flight in Atlanta after refusing to put away his iPod. An insider says “A flight attendant accused Carlos of having an attitude after she asked him to turn off his iPod in preparation for takeoff. Carlos complied and turned his iPod off, but the flight attendant then demanded he stow it. Carlos showed her again that the iPod was turned off, but he refused to stow it.” The flight crew has control over you when you’re on a plane. It’s best you do what they say.
It’s almost starting to be a given that once you’re a huge enough star in your chosen career path, you just have to dabble in on the others. R&B prince Chris Brown is in final negotiations for the feature thriller ‘Bone Deep’. The film’s cast also includes Matt Dillon, Idris Elba and actor/rapper TI. It is directed by John Lussenhop. The film is about a group of criminals who plan a major robbery at a money depot with 2 detectives hot on their trail. Chris will supposedly play one f the members of the heist crew. The 19-year old singing sensation is also set to star in two other films, ‘Caramel’ and ‘Phenom’.
Jessica Simpson is officially going country once her debut country album ‘Do You Know?’ drops in stores on September 9. Father and manager Joe Simpson told Us Weekly “It’s going to be a great year. It’s 9-9 – she’s into nines this year. We hope it’s a wonderful joy. It feels really good. She is extremely happy.” For the sake of saving what career she may have left, let’s hope so too. Anyway, the music video for her single ‘Come on Over’ debuted on her website (you have to register and log in to watch it) yesterday and will debut on CMT next week.
Katy Perry rules the charts for the third week in a row as the singer’s monster hit is the #1 song in America by topping the Billboard Hot 100. It’s shaping up to be the song of the summer. Other notable chart movement for this week include Rihanna’s ‘Take a Bow’ moving from #4 to #2, Lil Wayne’s ‘Lollipop’ going from #2 to #3, and Miley Cyrus’ ‘7Things’ moving from #16 to #10, mostly due to digital downloads as the song isn’t getting much love on the radio. It looks like this summer is all good for the ladies. Katy better watch out as Rihanna looks like she’s hot on her heels.
Vanessa Hudgen’s new CD ‘Identified’ dropped in stores this week and it debuted to disappointing numbers. Disappointing is actually an understatement. The album is more of a disaster if you ask me. It looks like America hates her. Even when she was a relative unknown, her last CD debuted with 34,000 units sold. Now that she’s a pretty big star, her sophomore album only sold 22,000 copies. That has got to hurt. I bet that her embarrassingly bad first single ‘Sneakernight’ didn’t help any. The only thing that could help her now is an amazing opening for ‘High School Musical 3’ and maybe signing up for a ‘High School Musical 4’.
Jordin Sparks was spotted signing autographs for fans before her performance at the Annual “Energy in the Park” concert at Strandbad Wannsee in Berlin, Germany this past weekend. Look at that big smile on her face! She definitely fits in with the energy theme. Other performers in the line up included the likes of Leona Lewis, The Rasmus, Sunrise Avenue, Madcon, The Script, Alexander Marcus, M. Pokora, Aloha from Hell and Movimiento.
